The Director of Supply Planning develops strategies, tactics and measurements to resolve business performance and Supply Chain Management issues.  Serve as business leader to implement improved business processes and results based on key initiatives identified. Works collaboratively with internal business partners to effectively utilize operations production capacity, improve inventory management, inventory deployment and other business processes based on best practices.  Develops a strong working relationship with business partners, and obtains a thorough functional knowledge of the organization, performance measures and information flows. Delivers improved business results in order fill performance, inventory turns, decreased distressed inventory and other metrics through process improvement work. Provide early identification of problems, advise senior management of risks and recommend corrective action. Monitor Planner performance, provide feedback and education/training and advancement opportunities as appropriate.



Responsibilities and tasks are written as follows:

  1.  Drives enforcement and utilization of capacity models for entire business. Forward projections of current thru to short and long term expectations. Annual production budgeting in concert with finance and operations partners.
  2. Support and provide direction for Business Management and Sales for new business capacity models and required Simulations.
  3. Interact with all Smithfield Packaged Meats Business Partners for strengthening of process opportunities, and effectiveness across the business.
  4. Provide Planning direction, and oversight of continued monitoring of Finished Goods inventories to Planning team in order to attain stated objectives.
  5. Direct Supply planning team, utilizing analysis to drive efficiencies and process enhancements.
  6. Engage Demand planning and Sales Operations in improved collective demand forecasting processes
  7. Support the manufacturing locations and build supplier relationships

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 10+ year’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
  • M.A., M.S., or M.B.A. degree in related field, preferred.
  • Minimum of 7+ years' experience in a position of leadership to include team development and management, required.
  • Prior management experience at the “corporate” level of a large company, preferably in the Food Industry, required.
  • Consumer Packaged Goods Industry experience, preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and SAP experience.
  • APICS Certified CPIM or CSCP, preferred.
  • Ability to manage and lead a geographically separated team.
  • Demonstrated experience working with all management levels up through the executive level resulting in exceptional customer service and client relationships.
  • High energy style, flexible and adaptive, with the ability to work well at all levels in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical, verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to travel approximately 25% of the time, at some times during the year travel could exceed 50%.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and guidance to employees within the Supply Planning function. Manages the Supply Planning leadership team.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and assisting in providing appropriate resolutions.
